Con Recap: Nekocon 2012

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Hey guys!

I've valiantly returned from Nekocon I tried to take things that I learned from going to cons and selling earlier this year and applying them now. The first thing I learned was that you need to be organized. So organized. Like almost to the point of ADHD. And the best way for me to do that is with a list.

The list below is made by me and is pintable (an indeed editable).

It's in EPS format so you can change characters or colors or whatevs.

I also got business cards this year and tried to have an organized set up with my commission list and price list and binder. (I try and have my original art and fanart clearly labeled to avoid confusion.)

DizziNess ended up basically creating mine and Jackie's set up (since I've never worked with grids before). There were lots of gaps since my prints were so small and my badges took up a lot of space (I didn't realize I had so many).

My  half of the display was on the right the covering cloths belong to Jackie (next time I think i'll bring an obnoxious pink one so it ties in with the rest of my display).

I was also asked to do a little official art for Nekocon proper! My art was in the conbook along with that of my friend JenovaSilver and many other talented arters.

Some of my work is below:

That's not all the art I did and I'm not even sure if everything I did got used but seeing it used in the book and on the charity jar made me super happy <3 p="p">

Create A Cure Graphics

Saturday, August 11, 2012

I've been working with my good friend Mel on her charity project Create A Cure. I've done a good amount of design work (both print and web), photography, and some logo and branding for her and have had the best time doing it! Below is the website proper:

Here's a close up of a logo:

What better logo for such a project than a brush stroke.

And the business card:

I seriously can't wait until next year.

Create A Cure's event went off without a hitch! It's been so awesome working with everyone on this, I can't wait till next year!

From the Create A Cure Blog:

Check out our spread in Sunday's Washington Post Capital Business publication (this version is a little easier to read).

We are so thrilled by this portrait of our Pop-up Gallery.  We would like to clarify that this article reflects our fundraising goal, not the amount of funds actually attained at the event.  We have submitted a correction to the Washington Post, to whom we are truly grateful for their coverage of the event.  At this time, we are still awaiting the final tally from last week's event.  The final amount of funds generated by our inaugural Pop-up Gallery fundraiser will be available via our website as soon as financial reports have been submitted by our partners.  Thank you for your continued support!

Volunteering for Artomatic

Saturday, May 19, 2012

Did I tell you guys I volunteered for Artomatic this year? If you look closely you can see some of the graphics I submitted being used on the the main graphic. I submitted Dance, Spoken Word, and Burlesque. See:

I worked with a small team of other artists to help put together the poster and and overall design of the graphic before my laptop started to implode. (That's a story for another time.)
I love the whole idea of Artomatic. I feel like there is a lot of art and indeed a lot of artists in metro DC, however you rarely see their work much less buy it. I'm not sure that it's because there's so many that it's too cluttered or they're all reclusive and never come out of their art-caves (like me). Whatever the case may be I  support AOM because c'mon, they benefit the artists100% and how many free workshops, beer and wine tastings do you need to realize this is just plain awesome?

That being said, you know I was there opening night!

I had a really good time and I got to hang out with the good folks of Somaphony! They had an interactive art piece covered in bloody music. No seriously:

People seemed afraid to come in (they didn't want to step on the art!)

...so Marcus and I stayed a while and played with the blood cells to help people get the idea. (Things got out of hand, there was blood everywhere.) Our evening ended with us and the Somaphony crew at The Dunes in DC (an art friendly venue). All in all a great time!

If I were you I'd take precaution...

Improvment

Sunday, February 5, 2012

I drew this (on the left) in maybe 2010 and decided on a whim to re-draw it again today to see if I've progressed even a teeny bit. And I think I have!

Below is the completed pic. She's a Candy Corn Demon. She has demonic powers over Candy Corn.

Ho hum.

(Farnsworth voice) Good news everyone! The website we've been working on has officially launched! It's main purpose is to help children whose parents are deployed cope while they're away. It has activities to help keep them focused, videos about the countries their parents could be going to, and a bunch of other stuff.

I did illustrations mostly and helped out with animations. We even got to bring in a few of my college buddies to help out towards the end, like Chris from Sparkflow Studios and Karrie S.

So on to the stuff! Please keep in mind I only did front end work!

This is the Avatar Game I worked on. Kids get to build their own character which will show up on their Passport. Click here to try it!

This is the Storybook activity I worked on. It's the story of a little girl who deals with the deployment of her father with the help of her family. Click here to read it!

Lastly, if you play the video on the main page you get to hear my VO explaining the site's purpose!

Enjoy guys!
Mike, Chris, me, and the rest of our team had a blast creating this together! The more I look at it, the more I wish there had been something like this for me when my mom was in the army.

Birthday Wishes

Thursday, January 19, 2012

This file is huge! I'm not re-sizing it though...
The Lovely Lass that commissioned the Aluminum Falcons tees is having a birthday party and I offered to do a doodle for her invite as a gift.

Enjoy!

PS- This is the version I did for her before hand (she asked me to change her hair and add earrings):

So of course any occasion warrants a new 'ad' type thinger...! This is the one I went with:

What the hell is a...? Part Deux!

Saturday, April 30, 2011

So Antonia was able to get her teams' shirt with the logo I made for them printed! My payment is one of the shirts. When she asked what number I'd like, I said '42 of course' (double fandom shirt anyone?)

This is what the shirt looks like:

I'll post a pic of me wearing mine when I get it~!

What the hell is a...?

This is a design for my buddy from work's coed baseball team the Aluminum Falcons! The shirts were gonna be blue hence the one with the blue bg. I gave her the option of shiny (my fav) vs. non shiny and they (wisely) chose shiny. You can probably guess where they got the joke...but in case you can't click here!

I seem to be doing a lot of art for folks these days int he way of logos and what have you. Not complaining. Just something I'm noticing (they will all be added to my resume!)

You can type any information you would like here. I can't do that as Bruce Wayne... as a man. I'm flesh and blood. I can be ignored, destroyed. But as a symbol, I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting.
